So...HOT...We have had record breaking temperatures this year and it seems to not let up. Not only are we having record high temps, we are also have a record breaking drought in Michigan. It has rained maybe five times in the past few months, but that was only for a little bit of time not lasting longer than 10 minutes.
I cannot wait for fall. Fall is my favorite season out of the year. It is not too hot and not too cold and the scenery is very colorful. This, however is something that seems like a decade away with all of the HOT temperature we are having. I read in the paper yesterday that we have been officially placed under a "drought".
Had a meeting tonight with our RACES Members (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services) and it went pretty well. Had a few new members show up and that was encouraging. We have some pretty good upcoming public events coming up and I'm excited about them. The Corporate Cup, Harvest Fest, is a few to name, but still a little ways away.
I also got our group into NIXLE, which is a free service to the public that allows Police Departments, Public Safety, EMS, and now the Southwest Michigan Emergency Response Team to send out sms txt messages and e-mails to those who have signed up for alerts. These alerts can inform the public about Severe Weather, Crime Investigations, or if there is something within the community that there is an event we want the community to know about to get more involved. If you wish to sign up for this service, visit: www.nixle.com, and remember being a member is FREE and it is informative.
Excited about Friday. This Friday, July 20th, at 0900Hrs our Emergency Manager, Mike McKenzie and myself are heading to Sam's Club on Beckley for their Grand Re-opening. There they will also present the Southwest Michigan Emergency Response Team a Grant Check to help us get some much needed things for our group. Even though it is not Friday yet, I would like to THANK Wal-Mart and Sam's Club for being so supportive within our community.
Well, just a little update, and I will try to keep you all informed on what is going on with me, the groups, and how we try to make things better in this community every day.
On another note, any event that is being held as a community event, or a big event that would like oversight and help maintaining safety, you may always contact me to see if RACES will help out in communications. My e-mail is iChad1741@gmail.com. For now it is a gmail, but soon our official website will be up as well as a different domain e-mail.
Thanks, and Godspeed,
-Chad Hayes. KD8RCF/E39
