For years the United States citizens have felt it. for years our neighbors to the north, Canada have felt it. For years the European Countries have felt it. And for years the outlook has not looked better. Ever since the global economy slipped and a global recession hit, it seems that, that was the time to start taking people for everything else that they didn't have. Natural Gas went up, Ethanol went up, Diesel went up, food prices went up, electricity went up, taxes went up, the cost of living went up. But do you know what didn't go up? Our wages, our means to keep us living life comfortably.
See, for decades Big business and Governments have been trying to get rid of the middle class and over the past decade they have been succeeding very quickly and dramatically. It seems they only want to have two classes of people. The High Class and The Low Class. What is my definition of Middle Class? The thought of middle class is being able to work full time, a 40 hour week without having to put in overtime. That's right, just your regular 40 hour week, and with that pay be able to pay all of your bills, put food on your table for you and your family, maybe donate a small percentage to your local church or religion, and then stash some away in your bank account to save up for a rainy day and build a nest egg with a proper retirement.
Those days have long gone, almost unheard of. Health care costs are ridiculous; one trip to the hospital could have you paying a medical bill for the rest of your life. As a full time worker, treated as a clock number only, my health insurance is in my eyes pretty good compared to a lot of others today; but it could be much better. It used to be working for companies they paid for your health insurance. We didn't have to pay part of our own insurance, we didn't have to pay co-pays for doctor visits, or co-pays for prescription medicines; our company who we made millions for had the courtesy to show us that we are the ones making them money and take care of us in return. No longer do they believe that the workforce is their bread and butter. If you talk to them, they think of you as nothing, as someone who can be replaced in a second even if, even if you've busted your hump for them for decades showing loyalty.
There is no more loyalty these days between companies and workers and vice-versa. With such the poor handling of employees, unions forming to protect themselves of unfair labor laws why should the working man have loyalty to their company from how they are viewed and treated like the dirt under your finger nail? They wonder why I always update my resume' when I have something to add and keep it posted online for others to view. They wonder why I always look for the next best thing to come along. It's because in my opinion my company is trying to ruin their employees will, soul, and courtesy to one another. Could it be the place I work is union? Yes, because this multi-billion dollar corporation purchased our place and we are the 2nd place to only be union. So my schedule shifts from week to week; third to second and second to third shift because of production needs; rather lack there of and layoffs from week to week.
If we take a look back in history, throughout the centuries at the empires who once ruled; we can see that they all fell. Why? After so long, an empire, more commonly known as countries today have been torn down by their own citizens because of corrupt governments, corrupt rulers, and the oppression of their citizens. You can only tear down your countrymen so long before people take drastic measures and the proof is there.
This is why I believe that learning or taking "social studies/history" in your grade schools (k-12) is useless. They say that we all have to take history so history does not repeat itself. Obviously the people who are big business leaders, CEOs, CFOs, and Politicians must have failed these classes or not have taken them. Because history obviously repeats itself and nobody learns their lessons. WWI, bloody mess and we didn't learn from that because we ended up with a second world war. Revolutions in the countries over in Europe continue to exist and have existed to take place because the new "leaders" do the exact same thing as the last, making no changes.
We are headed down the path to destruction very quickly. I fear it, and it is coming true more and more everyday. There are a few quotes from some of our influential leaders in the United States that I'd like to share that are even more true today.
There are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation. One is by sword. The other is by debt.
- John Adams 1735-1826
To be born free is an accident. To live free is a privilege. To die free is a responsibility.
